Campaign Links

What this page is — the Campaign Links tab of the Marketing pages screen: a small builder that turns one of your published pages into a link tagged with a channel and a campaign name.

What it is for — sharing a different link in each place you advertise, so that every lead and form submission that comes back says which post, ad or message brought it.

The problem it solves — the same page shared on Facebook, in an email and in a WhatsApp broadcast produces leads that all look alike. Without a tagged link there is no way to tell which of the three earned them, and typing the tags by hand is how Facebook, facebook and fb end up as three different channels.

Route: /org/marketing/pages?view=campaign-links · Permission to see the tab: Open the Campaign Links builder. · Permission to copy: Generate tagged campaign links.

A campaign link is the ordinary address of a published page with a few labels added to the end. The page opens exactly as before. The labels ride along, and Pulse reads them when the visitor submits a form.

What happens after somebody opens the link is covered in How campaign tracking works.

2. Where it lives

Campaign Links is the second tab of the Marketing pages screen, which belongs to the Manage Marketing Pages module.

  1. Open the header settings menu and choose Experience Manager.
  2. Under Project, open Marketing, then Pages.
  3. Select the Campaign Links tab, next to Pages.

There are three shorter ways to the same tab.

The search in the headerSearch for Campaign Links, listed under Orbit PulseOpen the Campaign Links builder.
The address barOpen /org/marketing/pages?view=campaign-linksOpen the Campaign Links builder.

The tab is part of the address. Selecting Campaign Links adds view=campaign-links to it, and selecting Pages removes it again, so a refresh keeps you on the tab you were on and the address can be bookmarked or sent to a colleague.

The builder works on the project selected in the project selector. Its list of pages is that project's pages.

The tab bar appears only for users who may see Campaign Links

A user without Open the Campaign Links builder. sees the Marketing pages screen with no tabs at all, only the list of pages.

Until the required fields are filled, a blue line says what is missing, for example Add a destination page and a campaign name to generate the link.

Paste the link wherever you are advertising. Build a fresh link for each place: same destination and campaign, different channel.

Which pages are offered as a destination

The list holds every page of the project that a visitor can open at a fixed address:

  • the project's landing page, shown as project name (Landing page), when it has content;
  • each published and enabled marketing page, including custom pages.

Each entry shows the page name and, under it, the address.

Not offered: a page that is still a draft, a page that is switched off, and a page whose address has a variable part, such as a single blog post.

If the project has nothing published, the builder is replaced by the message No published marketing pages yet. Publish a page on the Pages tab, then come back to create a campaign link for it.

How a name becomes a tag

You type names the way you would say them. The builder turns each one into a tag that is safe inside a link, and shows you the result under the field.

RuleExample
Capitals become lower caseDiwali Sale → diwali-sale
Spaces and punctuation become a single hyphenDiwali Sale 2026! → diwali-sale-2026
Hyphens at the start and end are dropped— Summer — → summer
Accented letters are keptÉté 2026 → été-2026

The same rule applies to Campaign name, Content tag and, for the Other channel, Channel name. Before you type, the Campaign name field reads Saved in lowercase with hyphens, e.g. diwali-sale.

Agree the campaign name before anybody builds a link

Diwali Sale and Diwali Offer become two different campaigns. The tag under the field is what your leads will show, so read it out to the team and use the same words everywhere.

5. Channels and what they write

Choosing a channel sets two tags at once: the source, which names the place, and the medium, which names the kind of place.

ChannelSourceMedium
Facebookfacebooksocial
Instagraminstagramsocial
WhatsAppwhatsappmessaging
Googlegooglecpc
Emailemailemail
LinkedInlinkedinsocial
Xxsocial
YouTubeyoutubevideo
OtherThe Channel name you type, as a tagreferral
Figure 3 — Other adds a Channel name field, marked 1. Its tag becomes the source; the medium is always referral.

The medium cannot be changed in the builder. Google is always cpc, the usual label for paid search; for a link in an unpaid Google listing, use Other and name the channel yourself.

The finished link is the destination address followed by the tags.

Part of the linkComes fromAlways present
utm_sourceChannel, or Channel name for OtherYes
utm_mediumChannelYes
utm_campaignCampaign nameYes
utm_contentContent tagOnly if you typed one

These four names are the de facto standard for campaign links, so analytics tools outside Optima Orbit read them too. If the destination address already carries other parameters, they are kept.

Nothing is saved

The builder keeps no list of the links you made. Leaving the tab, or refreshing the page, empties the fields. That is safe, because a link is only its inputs: the same destination, channel and names always produce the same link, so you can rebuild one at any time.

It also means Pulse cannot tell you which links exist. Keep your own note of the campaign names in use.

8. Why you would use it

The builder takes the guesswork out of "where do our leads come from". A link takes half a minute to make, and from then on every lead it brings carries its channel and campaign on the record, with nobody asking the customer "how did you hear about us?".

It also keeps the labels clean. Because the channel comes from a list and the campaign name is tidied the same way every time, two people building links for the same campaign produce the same tags. That is what makes the numbers add up later.

9. Worked example

A homeware shop is running a Diwali sale and will advertise it in three places.

  1. The marketer opens Campaign Links with the shop's project selected.
  2. Destination page: Homeware (Landing page). Under the field: https://shop.example.com/public/landing/homeware.
  3. Channel: Facebook. Under the field: Source: facebook · Medium: social.
  4. Campaign name: Diwali Sale 2026!. Under the field: Campaign tag: diwali-sale-2026.
  5. Content tag: Story banner. Under the field: Content tag: story-banner.
  6. The Campaign link reads https://shop.example.com/public/landing/homeware?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=diwali-sale-2026&utm_content=story-banner. She presses Copy link and pastes it into the Facebook story.
  7. She changes Channel to WhatsApp and clears the content tag. The link now carries utm_source=whatsapp&utm_medium=messaging. She copies it into the broadcast message.
  8. She changes Channel to Other, types Partner newsletter as the Channel name, and copies a third link, carrying utm_source=partner-newsletter&utm_medium=referral.

A week later, leads from the sale show facebook (social), whatsapp (messaging) or partner-newsletter (referral) as their source channel, all with the campaign diwali-sale-2026.
