Brand Kit
What this page is — the Brand Kit section of Growth Settings: the logo, three colours, two fonts, a tone of voice and a list of words to avoid, kept for one project.
What it is for — giving Growth a description of the brand to work from, so that whatever it creates for the project looks and sounds like the business and not like a template.
The problem it solves — the brand usually lives in somebody's head and a folder of logo files. Written down once, in one place per project, it stops every piece of content starting with "which blue do we use?" and "do we say cheap or affordable?".

1. What a brand kit is
A brand kit is eight values. None of them is required, and together they describe how the project's marketing should look and read.
| Part | Values | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Look | Logo, Primary colour, Secondary colour, Accent colour | Headings, highlights and buttons in what Growth creates |
| Type | Heading font, Body font | The typefaces of headings and running text |
| Voice | Tone of voice, Words to avoid | How the text is written, and what it must never say |
| Brand kit | The other branding screens | |
|---|---|---|
| Describes the brand to | Growth | Your visitors, by styling the pages they see |
| Kept per | Project | Organisation, store, or portal |
| Has a tone of voice | Yes | No |
| Changes what customers see today | No | Yes |
2. The section
| # | Element | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Brand kit card | The saved values, read-only. Empty values read Not set, No logo uploaded or None |
| 2 | Edit | Opens the editor in a panel on the right. Shown only to users who may edit |
| 3 | Preview card | A sample post using this brand kit. See section 6 |
Colours are shown as a swatch with the hex code in capitals. Each font name is written in that font, where your device has it.
3. First open — the pre-fill
The first time anybody opens Brand Kit for a project, Growth looks for branding you have already set up and copies it in as a starting point.
Where the values come from
Growth tries three sources in this order and uses the first one that has anything usable.
| Order | Source | Message above the card | Set up in |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | The project's store branding | Copied from your store branding. Review and save. | Store settings → Branding |
| 2 | The project's portal branding | Copied from your portal branding. Review and save. | The Brand tab of a project surface in Experience Manager. If several surfaces have branding, the marketing site is tried first |
| 3 | The organisation's branding | Copied from your organisation branding. Review and save. | The logo and colours held for the organisation as a whole |
| — | None of them has anything | No brand kit yet. Select Edit to add your logo, colours, fonts and tone of voice. | — |
What is copied
Only three values can be copied: the logo, the primary colour and the secondary colour. The accent colour, both fonts, the tone of voice and the words to avoid always start empty.
A value is left out if the brand kit could not save it: a colour that is not written as a six-digit hex code, or a logo that is not stored at a web address.
Nothing is stored at this point. The cockpit's Brand kit row stays Pending until somebody opens Edit and presses Save. A user who can only view sees the same copied values and cannot make them permanent.
Once a kit is saved, the message disappears and the link to the source is cut. Changing your store or organisation branding later does not change the brand kit.
4. Editing the kit
Press Edit. A panel titled Edit brand kit slides in from the right, with the line Used for everything Growth creates for this project.
There are other ways to reach the section, and one that opens the editor for you.
| From | Do this | Lands on | Needs |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Growth Cockpit | Follow Set up brand kit or Review on the second checklist row | The section | View permission |
| The header settings menu | Choose Growth Settings, then Brand Kit in the rail | The section | View permission |
| Quick Create, the plus icon in the header | Choose Set up brand kit. Typing brand in Search actions… narrows the list | The section with the editor already open | Edit Growth Settings: website address and brand kit. |
| The search in the header | Search for Growth Brand Kit, listed under Orbit Growth | The section | View permission |
| # | Group | Contains |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Logo | The current logo, Upload logo or Replace logo, and a remove icon |
| 2 | Colours | Three rows: a colour picker and a hex field each |
| 3 | Fonts and tone | Heading font, Body font, Tone of voice |
| 4 | Words to avoid | A text box with a character counter |
| 5 | Preview | The sample post, updating as you change values |
| 6 | Save | Stores the kit and closes the panel. Cancel closes it and discards your changes |
- Change whatever needs changing. The preview follows every change.
- Press Save. A confirmation reads Saved — Brand kit saved.
Saving replaces the whole kit with what the panel shows. A field you emptied is saved empty.
5. Field reference
| Field | Control | Required | Validation | Where the values come from |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Logo | File upload button | No | PNG, JPG or WebP. 2 MB at most | A file from your device |
| Primary colour | Colour picker + text field | No | Six-digit hex code, for example #1A2B3C | Picked or typed |
| Secondary colour | Colour picker + text field | No | Same | Picked or typed |
| Accent colour | Colour picker + text field | No | Same | Picked or typed |
| Heading font | Drop-down list | No | Must be one of the twelve fonts | A fixed list, the same for every organisation |
| Body font | Drop-down list | No | Must be one of the twelve fonts | The same fixed list |
| Tone of voice | Drop-down list | No | Must be one of the six tones | A fixed list, the same for every organisation |
| Words to avoid | Multi-line text box | No | 500 characters at most | Typed |
Logo rules
The line under the logo reads PNG, JPG or WebP, up to 2 MB.
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| File types | PNG, JPG (JPEG) and WebP. SVG and GIF are not accepted |
| Size | 2 MB at most |
| Storage | The logo is stored as WebP. A PNG or JPG is converted when it is uploaded |
| Checked by content | A file of another type renamed to .png is refused |
| Upload is not save | After an upload the confirmation reads Logo uploaded — Select Save to keep it in the brand kit. Pressing Cancel leaves the kit with its previous logo |
| Removing | The bin icon, tooltip Remove logo, clears it. Press Save to keep the change |
Messages when a logo is refused, all headed Logo not uploaded:
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| The logo must be a PNG, JPG or WebP image. | The file is another type |
| The logo must be 2 MB or smaller. | The file is too large |
| Unsupported file type. Upload a PNG, JPG or WebP image. | The file's content is not one of the three types, whatever its name says |
| The image is larger than 2 MB. Upload a smaller file. | The same size limit, checked again as the file arrives |
| Your storage limit has been reached. Free up space or upgrade your plan, then upload the logo again. | The organisation's file storage is full |
Colour rules
Each colour has two controls that stay in step: the picker sets the text field, and a valid code in the text field sets the picker.
- Write colours as a hash sign and six hex digits, for example
#1E3A8A. Capitals and lower case are both accepted. - A value that is not a hex colour shows Use a hex colour such as #1A2B3C. under the field, and Save is greyed out until it is corrected.
- The three-digit short form, such as
#ABC, is not flagged while you type and is refused when you save, with Could not save — Primary colour must be a hex code like #1A2B3C. (or Secondary or Accent). Use the six-digit form. - An empty colour is allowed. The picker shows black for an empty field; that is the picker's resting state, not a saved colour.
The twelve fonts
Both font lists offer Not set and the same twelve names, in this order.
| Inter | Roboto | Open Sans | Lato |
| Montserrat | Poppins | Nunito | Source Sans 3 |
| Merriweather | Playfair Display | Noto Sans | Noto Serif |
The six tones of voice
The list offers Not set and six tones. The description appears under the field when a tone is chosen, and on the saved kit.
| Tone | Description shown |
|---|---|
| Friendly and professional | Approachable and polite, with a clear business focus. |
| Warm and personal | Speaks like a trusted neighbour who knows the customer by name. |
| Confident expert | Authoritative and precise, backed by facts and experience. |
| Playful | Light and fun, with a little humour. |
| Formal | Reserved and respectful, with no slang or contractions. |
| Straightforward | Short, plain sentences that get to the point. |
Words to avoid
The box suggests Words or phrases Growth should never use, separated by commas. It accepts up to 500 characters and counts them under the box, for example 17/500. Typing stops at the limit. Spaces at the start and end are removed when you save.
6. The preview
The preview is a mock social post. It is the same in the section and in the editor, where it updates as you type.
| Part of the post | Takes |
|---|---|
| Round picture | The logo. Without one, a disc in the secondary colour reading Logo |
| Your business and Sponsored | The body font |
| Heading Something new is here | The primary colour and the heading font |
| The sentence under it | The body font. Its wording changes with the tone of voice |
| Short line | The secondary colour |
| Learn more button | The accent colour |
Where a colour is not set, the preview falls back to a dark heading, a grey line and a blue button.
Each tone has its own sample sentence, so you can hear the difference before you save.
| Tone | Sample sentence |
|---|---|
| Friendly and professional | Hello! We have something new for you, and we would be glad to show you how it helps. |
| Warm and personal | We made this with you in mind. Come and see, and tell us what you think. |
| Confident expert | Built on proven methods and tested results. This is the option you can rely on. |
| Playful | Guess what just landed? Something fresh, fun and made for you. Come and see! |
| Formal | We are pleased to announce that our new offering is now available. |
| Straightforward | New this week. Here is what it does and what it costs. |
| Not set | We have something new to share with you this week. Take a look. |
Choosing Playfair Display changes the font name that is saved. The preview, the saved kit and the font list draw that name in the font itself only when your computer or phone already has it. Otherwise they fall back to your device's standard typeface, and two different fonts can look the same on screen. The saved choice is still correct.
7. One kit per project
The kit belongs to the project shown under Project in the rail on the left. A second project has its own kit, its own pre-fill and its own checklist row. Nothing is shared between projects, and there is no organisation-wide kit to inherit from after the first open.
For a business with several brands, that is the point: give each brand its own project and its own kit.
8. Viewing and editing
| Can edit | Can view only | |
|---|---|---|
| Saved values and preview | Shown | Shown |
| Edit button | Shown | Not shown |
| Empty-kit message | …Select Edit to add your logo, colours, fonts and tone of voice. | …Ask a Growth administrator to set it up. |
| Role template | Orbit Growth Administrator | Orbit Growth Member |
Orbit Growth Viewer cannot open Growth Settings at all.
9. Why you would use it
A brand kit turns taste into settings. Without one, every request for content starts with a correction round: the wrong blue, a jokey sentence for a law firm, a word the owner has banned. With one, those corrections are made once, by the person entitled to make them, and apply from then on.
The words-to-avoid box earns its place on its own. Regulated businesses have words they may not use — guaranteed, cure, risk-free — and a list in the kit is easier to keep than a rule everybody is meant to remember.
10. Worked example
Sofia sets up the kit for a project called Northgate Dental.
- She opens Growth Settings → Brand Kit. The message reads Copied from your organisation
branding. Review and save. The card shows a primary colour
#0F766Eand nothing else. - She presses Edit and then Upload logo, and picks
northgate-logo.png, 640 KB. The confirmation reads Select Save to keep it in the brand kit. - She leaves the primary colour, types
#F59E0Bfor the secondary colour, and types#0EA5E9for the accent colour. The preview's line turns amber and its button turns blue. - She picks Merriweather for headings and Inter for body text.
- She picks Warm and personal. The description under the field reads Speaks like a trusted neighbour who knows the customer by name., and the preview's sentence changes to We made this with you in mind. Come and see, and tell us what you think.
- Under Words to avoid she types
cheap, painless, guaranteed. The counter reads 27/500. - She presses Save. The panel closes, the blue message is gone, and the cockpit's Brand kit row reads Done with the link Review.
11. Before this works — what an administrator sets up
| Needed | Without it |
|---|---|
| View Growth Settings, including the brand kit. | The section cannot be opened |
| Edit Growth Settings: website address and brand kit. | No Edit button; the kit cannot be saved or a logo uploaded |
| Membership of the project | You are not a member of this project. |
| File storage left in the organisation's plan | The logo upload is refused with the storage message above |
| Existing branding, if you want a pre-fill | The kit opens empty. Nothing else is affected |
12. Where the kit is used
| Place | How |
|---|---|
| Growth Cockpit | The Brand kit row turns to Done once a kit is saved |
| The Preview on this page | The only place the kit is drawn today |
| What Growth creates | The kit is what Growth will style and write content from. Growth does not create content yet |
The kit does not restyle your storefront, your portal, your emails or the application itself.
13. Don't confuse this with…
| This | Is not | Because |
|---|---|---|
| Brand Kit | Organisation branding | That makes the workspace and its portals carry the organisation's own look. The kit can start as a copy of the organisation's logo and colours and is separate afterwards |
| Brand Kit | Store branding | That styles the storefront shoppers see. Changing the kit does not change the store |
| Brand Kit | Portal branding in Experience Manager — Brand Identity and each project surface's Brand tab | Those style the portal and public pages. The kit is for content Growth creates |
| Tone of voice | An AI persona | The tone is one choice from six. It does not name or configure an assistant |
| The Preview | A post that will be published | It is a fixed sample. Nothing is posted anywhere |
14. Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Cause |
|---|---|
| The kit shows colours and the cockpit still says Pending | The values are a pre-fill. Press Edit, then Save |
| Save in the editor is greyed out | One of the colours is not a hex colour; the field says Use a hex colour such as #1A2B3C. |
| Could not save — Primary colour must be a hex code like #1A2B3C. | A three-digit colour such as #ABC was entered. Write all six digits |
| The heading in the preview looks the same whichever font you pick | That font is not installed on your device. The choice is saved correctly |
| The new logo disappeared | It was uploaded and the editor was closed with Cancel. Upload it again and press Save |
Logo not uploaded for a .png file | The file is not really a PNG, or it is over 2 MB |
| The pre-fill did not copy your logo | The source has no logo, or its logo is not stored at a web address. Upload it in the editor |
| You changed the store colours and the kit did not follow | The kit was already saved. It is independent after the first save |
| Could not load the font and tone lists | The lists did not load. Reload the page before editing |
| Set up brand kit is missing from Quick Create | Quick Create lists it only for roles that may edit Growth Settings |
| Refreshing after Quick Create does not reopen the editor | The editor opens once. Press Edit to open it again |
